The purpose of this article is the study of the teaching of reading, in its relationships with the possibility/conditions of teaching. It analyses the practice of text-study in the Portuguese teaching for the second cycle of Fundamental Schools. Such analyses permits to conclude, in one side, that the possibility/conditions of reading teaching in the school do not allow the emergence of reading teaching, but the emergence of teaching of a reading modality and other objects. On the other side, the transformation of reading teaching, is a function not only of a transformation in the conceiving the reading, but also a transformation in its possibility/conditions.
