This article deals with the educational reform promoted by Francisco Campos Ribeiro de Andrada (1926-1930). Aiming at the modernization of schools in Minas Gerais such a Reform intended the transform the schools in important agencies for consolidating the new urban industrial order, carried on in the country at that time. In order to make it possible for the schools to perform such a role, Campos imposed a profound reform inspired by the ideas of the New School. Campos actions in the schooling system in Minas Gerais represent a significant moment for the introduction of the ideals of the New Schools in our education. They also mean a new attitude of the State towards de towards the supply and maintenance of primary education in the country.
