This paper tries to identify womens’s role in the press of Belo Horizonte, from 1985 to 1903. Its objective is an attempt to understand the relation between two major standards of female: one is stimulated by the positivist thought and the other by the catholic church. The Republican model installed in Brazil at that time had in mind the separation between church and state. The text also tries to understand the model of women built up by the press and to realize the approaching game, the conflicts and the distance existing between the religious and the laic standards.
