This article tries to restore the history of Nossa Senhora das Dores School, a female institution in Diamantina, which received young ladies from the elite of the North and Northeast of Minas Gerais and Bahia in the period from 1867 to 1940. The emphasis is on an analysis of the relationships between students among themselves and their teachers so as to study the daily functioning of this traditional boarding school of Minas Gerais. The article was mainly based on recollections taken from former students and former teachers as well.
