In this article I have the intention to analyze the conceptual and practical approaches present in the urban and school projects through the study of the construction project of Belo Horizonte city (1894-1897). In the setting of the city, conflicting shapes of education representation were development to be used in the urban practices with an eye to the production of a modern and civilized citizen.
