In the XIX century, the purchase of foreign books, mainly French ones, as well as its diffusion, commercialization, translation and local adaptation, was an urgent task for the most prepared elite. At this point, the Chilean education experienced, during the XIX century, a strong French influence which, related to literary works, school texts and scientific and technical books of the more studied authors in the national context, got a feature of a real cultural transference, shaping all the educational system until, al least, 1880.
