Considering the work “Evaluation in Mathematics,” presented at the first SIPEM, this text verifies that, despite the relevance of this issue, Brazil has not produced a very expressive quantity of research in this area. This article intends to discuss, among other aspects, the mathematical evaluation at school as well as the different functions of evaluation, hoping to contribute to a better mathematical education.
