In this paper data surveyed in thesis and dissertations published between 1992 and 2003 in Capes database are analyzed aiming at contributing to the teacher education debate in the ethnic/racial perspective. The state of the art survey carried out by INEP/MEC (Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais Anísio Teixeira/Ministry of Education) in 1999 was taken as a reference. It was sought to analyze, in general terms, the proximity between the knowledge on racial discrimination practices in the Brazilian society and the teacher education literature in the area.
