The present article is about a research developed with a group of teachers in the state of Minas Gerais about their knowledge on SIMAVE and weather they use the result obtained from the program in their work. Initially, a brief study about the introduction of the national evaluation systems in Latin America and Brazil is made, so then one can focus on the specific case of the elementary education evaluation in Minas Gerais. The research discovered a noticeable discrepancy between the knowledge, discussion and the use of the results from SIMAVE among teachers from the capital and from the country. The study also made clear the lack of proper advertisement of the results from SIMAVE, which could prevent the program of evaluation from fulfilling its purpose of identifying and discussing problems within the elementary education.
