This paper analyzes the way the course of Pedagogy prepares its students (future teachers) for the work with the discipline knowledge of Mathematics in the initial series of the fundamental teaching, discusses the level of prepare of the students that are concluding the course of Pedagogy for the work with those contents and it presents the way the students of that course they evaluate its own formation. They are used as reference the students’ opinions that are concluding the course of Pedagogy of the University of the State of Rio Grande do Norte (UERN), the literature revision concerning of the knowledge of the teachers, of the teacher’s formation and of the teaching of Mathematics, the analysis of the curriculum of the course of Pedagogy and of the disciplines destined to the teaching of Mathematics. It shows that the students that are concluding the course of Pedagogy present a low domain of the discipline knowledge of Mathematics and they consider that the course of Pedagogy didn’t prepare them for the work with those knowledge.
