Abstract

COSTA, Patrícia Coelho da  and  PAULILO, André Luiz. HERALDS OF THE UNLIKELY, PIONEERS OF EDUCATIONAL RADIO AND CINEMATOGRAPHY IN BRAZIL (1920-1930). Educ. Rev. [online]. 2015, vol.31, n.2, pp.37-59. ISSN 0102-4698.  https://doi.org/10.1590/0102-4698132459.

This article has as its theme the processes of introduction of radio and cinematography in Brazil during the decades of 1920 and 1930, seen as the result of an intellectual ferment that saw in these media the possibility of freeing our people, dispersed over the immensity of the national territory, from the legendary explanations and from ignorance. In this sense, the text presents an analysis of the pioneering role played by these intellectuals, the discussion they led about the purpose of radio and cinema as well as the strategies employed so that these means would have an exclusively educational application. In particular, this article discusses the main fronts of legitimation for the growing interference of the State in the fields of broadcasting, cinema and education.
