The debate involving the formation of teachers of Youth and Adult Education (YAE) is not recent. In recent decades, the formation and the professionalization of youth and adult educator is becoming more and more central in educational practices and theoretical discussions in the area. This article aims to think some questions that emerged from researches conducted on this theme, as an attempt to understand the constitution of this rich field and its clashes in the Brazilian context. Some of these questions are the need to have or not a trained professional to work in the YAE, the deadlocks that hamper this preparation, and the theoretical and methodological basis that are necessary for such formation.
