This article discusses the identification of students with the school institution, whether as students, as children or as youth. It also analyzes the treatment provided to those that are the recipients of school actions, the presence or not of a concern with the age range considered as youth and its consequences. Schools have been suffering a process of improperly treating their students by not recognizing them as youth. This situation has a number of consequences including: the deinstitutionalization of the condition of youth, the difficulty youth have in the construction of their identification with the school and the poor communication between student youths and teachers.
