Abstract

SPOSITO, Marília Pontes  and  GALVAO, Izabel. The experience and perceptions of youth in school life at the crossroads of learning: knowledge, indiscipline, violence. Perspectiva [online]. 2004, vol.22, n.02, pp.345-380. ISSN 0102-5473.

This article presents part of a study undertaken from 2001-2002 in the city of São Paulo, about the life of young students in public high schools within the context of broad social changes in Brazilian society. It examines the way that these students construct a daily school experience that is increasingly situated in a confluence of two complex social processes. It considers their relations with schooling in the context of the expansion of enrollment in elementary education. The article also considers the crisis in the opportunity for social mobility via education and the rise of indiscipline, violence and insecurity in school life, experiences that mold practices and the construction of personal identity.
