Abstract

DIONISIO, Maria de Lourdes  and  PEREIRA, Iris. Pre-school research in Portugal official concepts, investigation and practices. Perspectiva [online]. 2006, vol.24, n.02, pp.597-622. ISSN 0102-5473.

This text presents and discusses the principal theoreticians in the field of verbal development and its approximation to written expression, subjacent to the Curricular Guidelines for pre-school education in Portugal. To the degree in which these guidelines are nothing more than declarations of intent, which do not clarify theoretical understandings or structure the action of educators, we focus at first on the concept of “linguistic ability” and secondly look at how, in kindergarten classes, these orientations take shape. Special attention is given to recent studies in Brazil, which in addition to producing knowledge, have supported the process of initial and continued teacher education, filling in - in local contexts - the void found in the official Curricular Guidelines.

Keywords : Pre-School Education; Portugal; Curricula.
