The purpose of this article is to present the results of an analysis based on a random sample of works in the annals of a respected event in the field of education. The analysis focused on the presence or absence of elements considered by the group of researchers to be essential to a research report. These elements were established from a review of the literature about the issue. Each work was analyzed by two examiners who completed prepared forms with information about the following previously selected factors: omission of objectives; absence of description of the subjects and of their selection processes; absence of description of data collection and analysis tools; and the lack of inclusion of a bibliography related to the research methodology. The analysis of the percentage of these factors missing from each study examined suggests the compromised quality of these papers, reflecting a lack of care for a detailed description of the research methods used. The results raise concern and indicate the importance of generating a broad discussion about research methodology and the preparation of reports, both among researchers and by schools that teach research.
