Departing from an epistemological and semantic analysis of the didactic knowledge and taken as granted its structure as a specific and specialized body of knowledge about teaching and learning, the main purpose of this article is to resale the importance of the Didactics for designing and implementing a new style of teaching in universities. Five major contributions of the Didactics are analyzed: the real application of the lifelong learning principles; the shift from teaching to learning; the need for creating new rich and integral spaces for education and training; the alignment of the university institutions along the new politics of quality and innovation and the introduction of the new methods and resources for learning. Finally we conclude by stressing the importance of Didactics in the university teacher training.
