Perspectiva [online]. 2011, vol.29, n.02, pp.483-506. ISSN 0102-5473.

The dynamic of constant change is a characteristic of contemporary higher education. This process involves many factors ranging from education policies that guide and lead to flexible curriculum, competency programs, student-centered learning, economic productivity stimulus programs and tutorial programs to the use that the new technologies bring. These are the contexts and the conditions that make it increasingly necessary to promote opportunities for reflection about the actors in higher education, and in this article use professors as a reference. In this context, it is considered vital that professors perceive themselves so they can consider or reconsider their goals, academic paths and practice, or at least the options they have taken and take in relation to their profession. The purpose of the study is to present data about higher education professors in Tabasco. The data refer to agency, practice and teacher identity and consider: origin of practice and of agency in terms of how these actors made their configuration and the search for meaning and logic with which they were articulated, at the same time in which they define their actions in specific contexts and habitus.
