Abstract

COSTA, Fernando Albuquerque. Comunidades virtuais de aprendizagem: traços, perspectivas de estudo e desafios às instituições educativas. Perspectiva [online]. 2012, vol.30, n.01, pp.59-75. ISSN 0102-5473.

This article examines the concept of Virtual Learning Communities in the light of theoretical references that in recent years have encouraged the conceptualization, organization and development of learning communities. Although a social component is nothing new in the discussion about the function of schools and educational institutions, this paper reflects on the learning that is undertaken using virtual environments and the new challenges that the technological dimension brings to these institutions. In addition to an initial introduction that maps and situates the learning communities, some of the most significant dimensions of the concept are then discussed, and its study over time since Vygotsky’s foundational work is analyzed. The text concludes by focusing on some challenges that the idea of the learning community engenders for schools, namely at a time in which digital and network technologies are bringing new horizons to their original function: the education of new generations.
