This paper presents a synthesis of part of the results of a master’s research that analyzed the constituent elements of the construction process of the professional identities of professors from the study case in an educational institution of higher education, named FaE/CBH/UEMG. This analysis considered the aspects of professional trajectory, practice activities that make up the professor’s work and how this constitutive process fits the institutional environment of the university. In order to do so, theoretical literature was reviewed, laws on the subject were consulted, questionnaires were applied and some interviews were conducted in narrative format. During the analysis, the interview data were triangulated with the other sources of evidence. Among the main results found, it is remarkable that professional identity is constructed taking into account a professional trajectory, which also consists of individual and collective elements. The survey also pointed out that this identity is characterized also by multiple factors, such as the type of the professional trajectory taken by the professor and its relation to the professional activities performed in higher education which contribute to the construction of multiple and heterogeneous professional identities.
