Resumen

BONILLA, Maria Helena Silveira. Free Software and Education: building a relationship. Perspectiva [online]. 2014, vol.32, n.1, pp.205-234. ISSN 0102-5473.  https://doi.org/10.5007/2175-795X.2014v32n1p205.

Computer labs with the free software Linux Educational are coming into public schools, and most teachers are not able to interact with them. Many teachers believe these operational systems and applications are more difficult to operate and less efficient, as well as they are considered with lower quality than those proprietary software that are most published. This is due to the lack of knowledge about what technology is, as well as its principles, proprieties and potentialities. As many teachers face this sort of difficulty, this paper intends to clarify what is a free software, how it was introduced in Brazil, and how it became a public policy. Also, the paper will enlighten the potentialities of free software for teacher education by supporting teachers to interact with them properly. As a result, misconceptions spread out by the media and the market might be challenged, and so relationships between free software and education are thought to become stronger.

Palabras clave : Free Software; Teacher Formation; Public Policy..
