DELGADO, Andréa Ferreira  y  MAYNARD, Dilton. The elephant in the classroom: the use of websites in History textbooks of PNLD 2012. Perspectiva [online]. 2014, vol.32, n.2, pp.581-613. ISSN 2175-795X.  https://doi.org/10.5007/2175-795X.2014v32n2p581.

This research analyses the uses of the internet in Brazilian History textbooks for high schools which were approved by the governmental initiative PNLD (Programa Nacional do Livro de Didático, National Textbook Program) in 2012. We discuss the meanings of the web in contemporary society, especially the daily immersion of young people in cyberspace, and the emergence of new challenges for the historian and History teacher. It becomes necessary to investigate the new relationships with the past and the present imposed by production, conservation and access to historical sources through the Internet. Similarly, the changes in the learning process through the use of digital technologies should be an object of research in education. Before that, however, the "elephant is in the classroom" through textbooks which incorporate, in different ways, the electronic pages. It is understandable, therefore, the importance of evaluating the uses of the internet in the Book of Student and Teacher's Guide. Therefore, we present the evaluation methodology developed in PNLD 2012 and discuss the test results of approved collections. We draw up an overview of the collections, considering the quantitative aspects - number of sites - as well as the qualitative ones, regarding accessibility, type of language, interactivity, presentation of information in the images and sources used in the indicated electronic addresses. We emphasize, however, the questioning of the internet assemblages and guidance provided to teachers through the Teacher's Guide. We intend, thus, to collaborate in the theoretical and methodological reflection needed to explore the potential of the internet as a tool in teaching and learning of History.
