Abstract

ARAUJO, Marta Maria de  and  PAULA, Thiago do Nascimento Torres de. The education of the refused and underdog child in the Parish of Our Lady of the Presentation (Christmas, XVIII century). Rev. Educ. Questão [online]. 2018, vol.56, n.47, pp.69-96. ISSN 1981-1802.  https://doi.org/10.21680/1981-1802.2018v56n47ID13999.

The 18th century, in the Parish of Our Lady of the Presentation, with episcopal headquarters in the city of Natal, is the period to reflect on the statute of the education of the refused child (and the underdog child in general) outside the school and through the school. The work, in the analysis of the documentary corpus circumscribed to the 18th century, is based on Norbert Elias's (1980; 2006) understanding of the processes of dependencies and interdependencies that bind people and the concept of figuration. In terms of conclusion, the historical analysis that has been operated evident that the statute of education of good customs outside of school overcame, in the 18th century, the preservation of the current socio-religious order. The exception was the creation of the public chairs of Latin Grammar (1731) and of First Letters (1793), due to the insistence of the Officers of the Municipal Council of Natal in reciprocal interdependence with the parents of children and young people.
