PENA, Anderson dos Anjos Pereira; ZIENTARSKI, Clarice and RECH, Hildemar Luiz. “Knowledge is and will be produced to be sold”: knowledge in Lyotard's postmodern conjuration. Rev. Educ. Questão [online]. 2020, vol.58, n.58, e-21019. Epub Oct 16, 2020. ISSN 1981-1802. https://doi.org/10.21680/1981-1802.2020v58n58id21019.
We seek to analyze what is hidden in the defense built by Jean-François Lyotard to legitimize knowledge as a commodity from the 1970s onwards. In The postmodern condition, written in 1979, this author naturalizes the dichotomy between "narrative knowledge" and "scientific knowledge". In the work, Lyotard strives to adapt knowledge to the perspectives of capitalist society devastated by the international crisis of the period, which led him to proclaim the emergence of a new era: postmodernity. By reifying technologies and new management processes, Lyotard dedicates his work to the debate of knowledge and elaborates a system that legitimizes the maximum penalty that condemns knowledge: the author defends that “knowledge is and will be produced to be sold”. We conclude that with his speculation, therefore, he shatters knowledge in two antagonistic poles in order to justify the game of reality and hide it.
