This article focuses on social pedagogy, scientific field, and social education, professional activity. Although the official attention that one and the other receive is very different according to the countries, they enjoy growing recognition in Latin America. Pedagogy traditionally limited education to the family and school during the early stages of life, but educational praxis extends throughout life. Social education allows the person to be trained permanently, in various fields: sociocultural animation, leisure and free time, adult education, specialized education, etc. In reviewing the highlights of socio-educational work, it is essential to refer to intervention models, theoretical schemes of practical scope. Here six models are reviewed from a flexible, open, dialogical and integrative perspective: psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, crisis intervention, humanistic, critical and systemic.
