CALADO, Vânia Aparecida; CAMPOS, Herculano Ricardo  e  RIBEIRO, Cynara Teixeira. Medicalization in education and the initial formation of the educator. Rev. Educ. Questão [online]. 2021, vol.59, n.60, e-24692.  Epub 19-Abr-2022. ISSN 1981-1802.  https://doi.org/10.21680/1981-1802.2021v59n60id24692.

Medicalization reduces social, political, educational aspects to diseases of biological origin of the person who fails in school, so, it is necessary to address this theme in the initial teacher formation. The objective of this work was to analyze pedagogical mediations in the learning process of the scientific concept of “medicalization in education” with pedagogy students. Based on Vygotsky’s theory of cultural-historical psychology and Marx’s historical-dialectical materialism method, a formative experiment was carried out with a pedagogy class from a public university. The pedagogical mediations were based on the conceptual hierarchy of the aforementioned concept through critical reflections, fun and games, internship practice, readings and written records. The formative experiment allowed a greater conceptual learning about medicalization in education and its determinants, and contributed to the identification of confrontation possibilities. It is concluded that humanized pedagogical practices, along with the mediation of playing, can be strategies to combat medicalization..
