OLIVEIRA, Guilherme Cordeiro da Graça de  and  BORUCHOVITCH, Evely. Anxiety among high school students, gender and school year: contributions for education. Rev. Educ. Anxiety is a sensation associated with worry, anguish or fear and can have negative consequences for learning. The present article has the objective to characterize the anxiety of high school students and to examine whether there are differences in relation to students´ gender and school year. 957 high school students from public and private schools of two Brazilian cities participated in the research. The data were collected through the anxiety scale of the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI). Significant differences in the anxiety scale scores in relation to gender and school year were found. Girls reported significantly more anxiety than boys. Third year students had lower anxiety indices when compared to students of other school years. It is expected to contribute to the advancement of research on the topic, as well as to guide psychopedagogical actions that reduce students’anxiety in education context.
