Abstract

AZEVEDO, Alessandro Augusto de  and  VIANA, José Danilo da Silva. The elderly as a social individual in education: for the right to have a voice, a turn and a place. Rev. Educ. Questão [online]. 2021, vol.59, n.62, e-26508.  Epub Apr 18, 2022. ISSN 1981-1802.  https://doi.org/10.21680/1981-1802.2021v59n62id26508.

The article discusses the set of meanings of the school space of elderly individuals who resumed their studies, enrolling in EJA (youth and adult education) in a public school in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. It recognizes, based on Scoralick-Lempke and Barbosa (2012), the phenomenon of prolongation of the vital stage, resulting from processes of expansion of rights and improvements in the quality of life of a significant part of people on the planet, presenting challenges regarding educational demands. It understands, as does Gonçalves (2015), that aging is a multidimensional, multidirectional, gradual and irreversible process. From a methodological point of view, the work was structured in the dialogue with life stories, based on Glat (1989) and Josso (2007), analyzing the meanings from the individuals, in which the return to school emerges as a moment to repair the denial of the right to education, when they were infants, and to welcome their needs for socialization and sharing of experiences and learning, according to their own life projects.

Keywords : Elderly; Youth and Adult Education; Right to education; Lifelong learning.
