Abstract

This article presents a metaevaluative proposal for a self-evaluation process at an institution of higher education (IHE) in Brazil, based on “Utility” and “Precision” standards developed by the Joint Committee  on Standards for Educational Evaluation. For that purpose, we have designed a tool - freely adapted from the Program Evaluation Models Metaevaluation Checklist -, which was applied to the course coordinators of the IHE under study. Our main objective is to engage in a reflection on some aspects related to the importance and use of the information generated, to the quality and adequacy of the procedures used to obtain and treat the data, as well as to the mechanisms used to publicize and access their results. We consider that the development of metaevaluative models may contribute to the improvement of the self-evaluation process, and thus consolidate it as one of the main guidelines in public policies in Brazilian higher education.
