This article presents a descriptive study of the results of the Mathematics Tests from the Fourth and Eighth Grades given in November 2002, as part of the Learning Assessment Program in the state of Paraná. A descriptive analysis is made of the answers given by the students in the tests.  The analysis seeks to provide evidence about student’s knowledge based on a reference matrix and also provides some possible recommendations for the classroom.
