The present study intends to analyze the investigations conducted in the area of Child Education (kindergarten), specifically concerning the evaluation of child development between the ages of zero to five years. In this paper, several authors are mentioned, from different countries, with successful experiences in that area. Regarding Brazil, we present the legislation and the guidelines of institutions that work with that teaching level. Next, we consider evaluation studies that specifically approach the students' performance through several evaluation modalities. We conclude that there are many possible alternatives to follow a child's development, relating it to different aspects of physical and social reality.
