This paper aims to show the association between student performance, as measured by the Brazilian Proeb/Simave pronciency tests, and knowledge that teachers have about this large scale evaluation system. It was found that, even after controlling for socioeconomic characteristics of students and for school variables related to teacher motivation and school atmosphere, teachers' knowledge about large scale assessments is associated with students' higher performance.
