This article explores and analyzes problems and solutions proposed by schools based on the use of the Indicators of Educational Quality, a planning and assessment tool. We analyzed 103 action plans of schools in four Brazilian states. We concluded that school communities have the knowledge to solve some of their problems, but that there are issues for which there is less consolidated knowledge about the best ways to address them, such as those related to the participation of parents in their children's school life and the best ways to improve their learning.
