Abstract

BERTOLIN, Júlio C. G.. A proposal for performance indicators in higher education in Brazil. Est. Aval. Educ. [online]. 2011, vol.22, n.50, pp.471-490. ISSN 0103-6831.

This paper puts forward system-level indicators to evaluate the performance of Brazil's higher education system taking into consideration the country's social development and economic growth. Initially, we present some of the major systems of international indicators for assessing higher education systems, such as UNESCO's and OECD's. Next, an analysis of Brazil's socioeconomic context is carried out based on indices used worldwide, such as HDI, GINI, GDP and school enrollment rates. Finally, a proposal is developed for a structured system of indicators to assess the performance of the higher education system in relation to social inequality, lack of skilled human capital, lack of educational quality and technological backwardness, still present in our national context.
