This study discusses the main types of evaluation as well as the main characteristics of the constructivist teacher. It shows the importance of evaluation as a means to guide and plan teaching activities, highlighting the teachers’ responsibilities as evaluators. The main aims are: to identify teachers’ conceptions about evaluation and to investigate if these conceptions follow the principles of constructivism; and to identify students’ ideas about evaluation. For this, were applied some questionnaires which identify students’ ideas about evaluation and also verify that most teachers work within a constructivist perspective, even though they do not have great knowledge about evaluation.
