This study analyzed the results of the Literacy Assessment Program in 2006 and 2010 and the evolution of regional inequalities between schools and between students of public school in Minas Gerais. Its results indicate that between 2006 and 2010 students’ literacy levels increased considerably. However, this result is an average of the proficiencies of students and does not take into account how students are distributed around this average, ie, it does not take into account the inequalities between regions, schools and students. Thus, this paper analyzed the evolution of proficiency differences between regions, between students and between schools. The results showed that there was a decrease both in the inequality between regions in the state of Minas Gerais and in the inequality between students. However, the inequality between schools increased.
