Based on specific reflections on teacher education we present some experiments carried out in this field in several states of the Brazilian federation, as well as in other Latin American countries - Messina -, such as Argentina, Chile and Colombia. Such reflections are intended to take a closer look at traineeship, considered a problem, which was and has still often been left aside in teacher training courses. This text will highlight common and disparate points concerning the development of traineeships in undergraduate programs, revealing the complexity of the theoretical and methodological conception that underlies them. Relying also on empirical research, testimonials from teachers and students are presented and at the end we emphasize that the concept of institutional traineeship needs to be reconstructed, so that it becomes not only a mandatory curriculum component, but rather a didactic-pedagogic and political.
