In this article, deals with the deployment of municipal assessment in four municipalities of São Paulo State. Are highlighted elements of the evaluation system to show its relationship to the quality of teaching in different designs. The results obtained by those systems that make up the scope of the study and the contours of their own evaluation systems are highlighted to demonstrate connections with quality of education. Finally, we conclude that the external evaluation, conceived as a complex process that involves technical choices, political and ideological, is an important tool for tracking students, schools and decision making. However, in addition to emphasizing the need for further studies in view of the trends observed, it is necessary to protect itself to ward off possible negative effects such as transfer of responsibilities and compromising the quality of their own results.
