This paper addresses the lack of research in Early Childhood Education evaluation by discussing the internal institutional evaluation processes. We use academic research and documents that focus on this issue, and present data of an evaluation process in a Brazilian preschool. We conclude that, during the moments of evaluation, teachers’ educational practices become more visible, as well as their views about children. The challenge remains in order to continue this debate from a benchmark to help us build forms of evaluation that might guide educational practices that respect the child as a human being entitled to rights.
