Abstract

TEIXEIRA, OTÁVIO HENRIQUE; ALMEIDA, LUÍSA VIEIRA  and  CASSUCE, FRANCISCO CARLOS DA CUNHA. TEACHERS’ PERCEPTIONS AND LEARNING IN BRAZILIAN HIGH SCHOOLS: WHAT IS THE RELATIONSHIP?. Est. Aval. Educ. [online]. 2022, vol.33, e07473.  Epub Mar 29, 2022. ISSN 1984-932X.  https://doi.org/10.18222/eae.v33.7473.

Based on teachers’ perceptions of the possible causes of learning problems in Brazil, this study aimed to analyze the quality and ability to influence these perceptions on the performance of 3rd year students of Brazilian public high schools. For this, we used data obtained from the Sistema de Avaliação da Educação Básica [Basic Education Evaluation System] (Saeb) of 2015 and estimated a multilevel random interception model at two levels (student and school). The results show that, among the 11 perceptions examined, only 4 had significant estimated coefficients, and that, in general, there are signs that teachers are not really able to perceive some of the causes, especially intraschool, which are possibly harmful to the quality of learning.

Keywords : LEARNING; SECONDARY SCHOOLS; PERCEPTION; NATIONAL EDUCATION EVALUATION SYSTEM.
