Abstract

This article aims to understand the role of the Portuguese test of Prova Brasil from the perspective of ninth grade pupils. The data come from qualitative research conducted in the master’s degree in Education in 2017 and used collective interviews with pupils from a school in the Médio Vale do Itajaí. The theoretical contributions dialogue with Bakhtin’s circle enunciation theory. The results indicate that, for the subjects investigated, Prova Brasil’s role is to control schools, focusing on “teaching correctly”, linking the quality of education to the results obtained in the Índice de Desenvolvimento da Educação Básica [Basic Education Development Index].
