The objective of this article is to identify how students’ performance in undergraduate courses in Civil, Computing, Electrical, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering is evaluated in three campuses of a public university in southern Brazil. The research methodology used was the explanatory sequential mixed design. The main results show that teachers diversify the assessment strategies used, but, despite this, the evaluation process is centered on the teacher and does not correspond to knowledge based on current discussions around the didactics of higher education and engineering education, as in formative evaluation.
