The quality of education can be evaluated from several aspects, including the observation of access to material resources and human capital. The present study aims to estimate an index of infrastructural deprivation in basic education schools in Rio Grande do Sul. To this end, we used data from the 2018 School Census, adapting the Alkire-Foster method to assess the nature of school deprivation. Of the 10,066 schools operating in the state, about half face constraints in eight or more indicators (of the 24) selected for analysis. The worst performance among schools in the state of Rio Grande do Sul was in the composition of the variables of the dimension “Conditions of Student Assistance Services”. Rural schools have the greatest infrastructural deprivation.
