The present article characterizes and analyzes educational evaluation initiatives developed in the state of Ceará that have purposes and attributes different from the Permanent System of Basic Education Evaluation, which has been the object of several studies. Three initiatives, implemented during the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, are addressed: i) evaluation of professional training courses; ii) institutional evaluation; and, iii) evaluation of a strand of educational policy. The historical retrospective of these initiatives was conducted by consulting documents that record their objectives and scope. It is intended, with the dissemination of these propositions, to shed light on action perspectives that will be integrated into the state system of evaluation of this and of other federal entities.
