The objective of this article is to present the development of the curriculum of the new medical program at the Universidade de São Paulo (USP) in Bauru, and the performance of its students in the 2018 and 2019 progress tests (TP) compared to nine other public medical programs. Data on students’ average performance grouped by knowledge area and year of graduation were analyzed. As a result, Bauru students performed significantly better than those from other institutions in both years of the TP. In the first-year classes of 2018 and 2019, their performance stood out in Public Health/Family and Community Medicine, and in the second year (2019), in all other areas except the basic one. It can be concluded that the curriculum of the new medical program in Bauru, with its diverse active learning methodologies, provides pedagogical and care opportunities for the early application and practical experience of knowledge, contributing to the strong performance obtained.
