In this article, the author does a reading of the narratives concerning Guatemalan Indian Rigoberta Menchú, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize In 1992. the first part analyzes the way In which oral history turns to binary relations like public and private or text and context. In the second part, Claudia de Lima Costa concentrates on problems arising In the production and translation of cultural diversities and once again reinforces binary oppositions like the First and Thlrd Worlds.
