Abstracts This article describes the history of reflection on women s labor analyzing the main directions the debates have taken in two areas the production of statistics which gave visibility to women s economic activity in Brazil and the drafting of legislation where the most significant point was women s participation In the 3988 Constituent Assembly The article does not do a theoretical or statistical presentation but rather a narrative on the main theoretical method ological and political questions pertaining to women s labor seeking to identify some prospects for the future
