Abstracts The retired people s movement and programs for the so called Third Age are analyzed as evidence of a new Identity for the elderly In Brazil The prevalence of men in the retired people s movement and that of women In the programs leads the author to include gender differences in this approach to aging She also concludes that elderly men stress values like clarity and action while elderly women focus on freedom and personal satisfaction
