Abstract

In the period before 2014 elections, the deaths of Jandira e Elizângela, two women from Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area, who suffered clandestine abortion, had great repercussion on media press. The response of the State was the deployment of Herod Operation against clandestine abortion clinics in Rio de Janeiro. The article analyses press coverage in September, October and November through systematic clipping of newspaper O Globo. There was search of speeches in the same period in National Congress (Deputy Chamber and Senate), and also in Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro State. The article analyses representations in press coverage about main actors involved (the two women, her families, professional from clandestine abortion clinics, repressive apparatus) and the mentions to human rights present in the news.
