Abstract

SOLIVA, Thiago Barcelos. International and Glamorous: about the Career of “Professional Transvestites”. Rev. Estud. Fem. [online]. 2019, vol.27, n.2, e53423.  Epub June 01, 2019. ISSN 1806-9584.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1806-9584-2019v27n253423.

The objective of this article is to analyze the agency strategies and the corporal techniques of the “professional transvestites” from their international circuits and careers. It was tried to analyze how the experience of these people’s movement in Europe constituted an important event to consolidate their careers and construction of themselves. It was from these circulations that these people were able to make contact with the world of the corporal modifications and also to construct strategies of resistance that, from the transit in the conventions of gender and class, made possible the existence of their forms of life. The data for the writing of this article were obtained through documentary, photographic sources and reports of life trajectories of the “professional transvestites” who experienced these processes. The trajectories of Rogéria, Eloína of the Leopards, Marquesa and Divina Valéria were focused in this study.

Keywords : Travestites; Cosmopolitanism; Agency; Resistance; Body.
